In this episode, we will explore how intersecting systems of oppression are leading to tied aid for Global South CSOs. Why is Too Southern to be Funded as a campaign is a call to shift the power and reimagine collective care, and what this research and campaign means for us all.
Eshban Kwesiga
Born in Uganda, Eshban has built experience applying deep systems thinking to an evolving development context. His early career was in the private sector during which he built on private sector assets to advance social justice work and to extend opportunities. His philosophy on development is premised on the idea that the forces of development are too complex, subtle, and insufficiently known to yield any simple and broad formulas.
Alex Martins
Alex Martins is an independent researcher, facilitator, advocate and performer that combines the technical and the creative to drive change. She is equally at home buried in research documents as she is memorizing a monologue. Passionate about advocating for a more equitable, just and decolonised international development sector, Alex has more than 13 years of experience conducting and leading in-depth qualitative research studies on a range of topics, including measuring equity, creating equitable partnerships, Global North donor and NGO transitions, tied aid, participatory grant making, and diversity-smart investing. She also co-founded The Equity Index with Lorriann Robinson, a social enterprise advocating for greater equity in the UK development sector.
Welcome to our conversation series, “Who Cares?” Born out of the ShiftThePower fellowship, we, two African feminist friends, explore themes of beauty, joy, power, care, community, and love on the path to freedom.
